PITTSBURGH, PA (July 8, 2026) – Commonplace Coffee is excited to officially celebrate the grand opening of their new Shadyside cafe and bakery location on Saturday, July 18, from 8am-4pm. This new location inhabits the space formerly held by Georgie’s Corner Cafe at 5743 Walnut Street.
Beginning at 8am, this grand opening celebration will include a giveaway to the first 50 customers of the day, with each guest receiving an exclusive new Commonplace Kitchen hat, voucher for five free drinks at the new Shadyside location, and limited edition holographic sticker of the cafe’s storefront. The rest of the day will include festivities inside and outside of the cafe, including free sampling of food and drink items, exclusive specials such as shortbread brownies and sweet corn lattes, and activities, including free children’s face painting, fresh flowers for sale from Poppin Daisies, prints for sale from current exhibiting artist Christopher Boring, and more. Visits are anticipated from local elected officials.
The initial community response to this new cafe has been absolutely incredible, with new neighbors and long-time Commonplace supporters alike sharing their excitement about the new space and visiting to celebrate this exciting new chapter for the local coffee company.
In addition to serving as Commonplace’s ninth retail coffeehouse, this new location relocated a significant portion of their commercial kitchen and baking operations from Indiana, Pennsylvania to Pittsburgh. The coffeehouse offers Commonplace’s full beverage menu, alongside scratch-made baked goods, grab-and-go breakfasts, and lunch items created by Commonplace’s Bakery. Commonplace’s Indiana bakery, which first opened in 2015, continues to operate in a modified capacity. The hat featured in the giveaway is the first piece of merch in their soon-to-be announced bakery rebrand.
